Southern Belize – Placencia

It’s easy to get hooked on fly fishing in the pristine waters around Placencia, Belize where year-round it’s possible to catch eight to ten different species in a day. Southern Belize, like very few other fishing locations in the Caribbean, is teeming with a wide variety of sportfishing species.

  • Bonefish cruise the reef and flats among the outer cayes.
  • Tarpon patrol inner mangrove islands, the rivers, lagoons, and can be found in very isolated, rarely visited landlocked freshwater lakes.
  • Permit, southern Belize’s true world-class sportfish, can be found tailing on the coral flats, off mangrove islands, and in the extensive backcountry system known as Punta Ycacos Lagoon
  • Southern Belize has fantastic fishing for snook, jack, barracuda, bonito, mutton snapper, and untouched offshore fishing for tuna, cobia, dorado, and even sailfish.

While there are many good resorts in the Placencia area we recommend the following for our angling clients:

About Belize Guide Services

Belize has a very strong guide and tour operator licensing program. Guides are required to master subjects such as first-aid, CPR, the history of Belize, ecology of the rainforests and the reef, marine life, and hospitality service.

The Belize guide licensing program is Belize’s method of preserving the quality of the guide profession. It also gives guests a way to make sure they are engaging a qualified and reputable guide. Therefore, before booking a guided fishing trip make sure your outfitter is properly licensed and insured.

Anglers and Hunters Travel can customize your stay to include in-country flight transfer from Belize International to Placencia, guided fishing, diving or local tours of the the jungle. Please contact our office at 1-888-685-0260 (Toll Free) or email us: info@anhtrvl.com for a personalize quote.
